wikipedia
Pomiechówek is a village in Poland, located in the Masovian Voivodeship, within the Nowy Dwór County, serving as the administrative seat of the commune of the same name. The village boasts a rich history dating back to Roman times, when the Amber Route passed through Pomiechówek. During the Middle Ages, fortified settlements developed in the region, and Pomiechowo, the oldest part of the village, was associated with religious orders, including the Benedictines. In the 15th century, a customs chamber was established here, and in the 17th century, the Swedish and Napoleonic wars affected the area, influencing its development. In the 19th century, Pomiechówek became a significant point due to the construction of the Vistula River Railroad, which contributed to population growth and the dynamic development of the region. During the interwar period of the Second Polish Republic, Pomiechówek became a vacation spot for elites, including Prime Minister Felicjan Sławoj Składkowski, as well as a local military center. Architecturally, the village is characterized by historic buildings, such as the Church of St. Anne. Interestingly, Pomiechówek was the site of numerous military clashes, including the Battle of the Wkra River in 1920, and a prisoner-of-war camp during World War II. Today, Pomiechówek has gained importance as a recreational destination, and its location along with developed transportation infrastructure, including rail connections, make it attractive to residents and tourists. The commune operates eight bus lines, and the surrounding area features recreational spaces, drawing tourists. Additionally, many notable figures have lived and worked in Pomiechówek, including director Stanisław Bareja and writer Igor Newerly. Pomiechówek also maintains partnerships with cities abroad, fostering cultural exchange and joint projects.
