wikipedia
Port Czerniakowski is a historic river port in Warsaw, located on the left bank of the Vistula River, along Solec and Czerniakowska Streets. It was established between 1850 and 1865 as a site for the construction and repair of Vistula River vessels and served as a winter harbor for Count Andrzej Zamoyski’s company. A shipyard operated here, building ships—including tugs and inland passenger vessels—until 1965. After World War II, the port lost much of its significance and gradually transformed into a shipyard and wintering site for barges and ships. After 1989, Port Czerniakowski began to be used for recreational purposes, especially by kayakers and rowers. The area underwent renovation, with major refurbishment works completed in 2014. Today, the port features important structures such as the harbormaster’s building, the former "Syrena" Sports Club, and "Przystań Warszawa," an initiative aimed at developing the area through non-governmental organizations. In 2022, plans were announced to build a bridge over the port channel to improve transport connections with the western embankment. The history of the port is closely tied to the transformation of the Vistula River and the efforts of local residents to tame its waters. An interesting fact: the last ship launched at the Warsaw River Shipyard was built for the 1965 film "Pharaoh." Although Port Czerniakowski has a rich history, it is now gaining new life as a hub for water recreation and tourism in Poland’s capital.
