wikipedia
Powidz is a rural municipality located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, within the Słupca County. Its seat is the town of Powidz, which is also the smallest municipality in the region in terms of population. The history of Powidz dates back to the middle of the first millennium BCE, and in 1243, Duke Bolesław the Pious granted it town rights. The town prospered, confirming its importance over the centuries, including by defending against the Teutonic invasion in the 14th century and developing education through the establishment of a school at the parish church. In the 18th century, industry began to develop, including the famous Powidz Ironworks. After the partitions of Poland, Powidz came under Prussian rule, and during World War I, the inhabitants organized independence activities, including the formation of the Powidz Company, which liberated the town. The 19th century brought the status of a health resort, which influenced the development of tourist infrastructure. Despite losing its town rights in 1934, the municipality gained a new status in 1972, and its current form was reformed in 1999. Architecturally, the municipality is distinguished by a Gothic golden royal crown, which is featured in the coat of arms of Powidz. Powidz is also an important place for education, with a local primary school and numerous Rural Housewives' Circles aimed at supporting local culture and traditions. The municipality borders other municipalities, which fosters social integration and regional cooperation. An interesting fact is that a narrow-gauge railway network was established there, connecting Powidz with Gniezno, highlighting the area's communication significance. The Powidz Municipality is a place with a rich history that combines tradition with modernity, making it an attractive point on the map of Greater Poland.
