wikipedia
Poznań Główny is a railway station in Poznań, classified as a Premium category facility, located in the city center. The new station building was opened on May 29, 2012, and is part of the Integrated Communication Center, which also includes the Avenida shopping mall and a parking lot for 1,500 cars. The architecture of the new station has faced criticism due to its chaotic layout, limited number of ticket counters, and difficulties in navigating the facility. An important part of the station's history is the Imperial Station, built in 1902 for Emperor Wilhelm II, and the Western Station, completed in 1927 while preserving historical architecture. The Main Station has undergone numerous transformations, including bombings during World War II, after which it was rebuilt and modernized, giving it classical and modernist features. A significant historical event was the arrival of Ignacy Paderewski at the Imperial Station on December 26, 1918, which sparked the Greater Poland Uprising. Among interesting facts, it is worth noting that between 1945 and 1950, the station was a key point for repatriates from the eastern borderlands, and in 2006, a commemorative plaque dedicated to Kazimierz Nowak was unveiled. In 2022, the platform numbering was changed as part of a costly modernization. Additionally, in early 2019, construction began on a new platform, improving transportation accessibility. With its centuries-old history and rich experiences, the Main Station remains a central transportation hub and an important cultural and historical landmark of Poznań.
