wikipedia
The President's Castle of the Republic of Poland in Wisła, commonly known as "Zameczek" (The Little Castle), is a modern palace built between 1929 and 1930, designed by Adolf Szyszko-Bohusz for President Ignacy Mościcki. Located in the heart of the Silesian Beskids at an altitude of approximately 615–650 meters above sea level, it comprises several buildings: the Upper Castle, the Lower Castle, and the Forester's Lodge. The Upper Castle, with its form reminiscent of medieval structures, is considered a classic example of 1920s constructivism. The building has retained its original interior elements, including furniture designed by Professor Andrzej Pronaszko. The history of Zameczek dates back to 1906, when Archduke Friedrich Habsburg built a hunting lodge on the site, which unfortunately burned down in 1927. Following this tragic event, the Silesian Parliament decided to construct a new, more representative building, leading to the creation of Zameczek, intended as a symbol of the unity between Silesia and Poland. The complex served as a residence for Polish presidents, but during World War II, it was used by the German SS. After the war, it underwent rapid restoration and continued to function as a retreat for government officials, hosting many prominent figures, both politicians and artists. The Upper Castle is open to visitors, and its interiors feature salons, President Mościcki’s office, and original furnishings. The surrounding grounds include beautiful green areas with tennis courts and preserved old-growth trees. A helicopter landing pad has also been established near the castle. Interestingly, Zameczek was equipped with modern amenities for its time, such as central heating and its own sewage treatment plant.
