wikipedia
Prudnik is a railway station in the Opole Voivodeship, classified as a local station, which serves as an important transport hub. Located at Dworcowa Street, the station handles rail traffic on the significant Sudeten Main Line connecting Katowice and Legnica, as well as the line to Krapkowice. Architecturally, the station features two low platforms, with a large shelter at platform 1, and historic infrastructure, including signal boxes with mechanical equipment. The station's history dates back to the 1860s, when the construction of railway lines in the Upper Silesia region began. In 1876, freight traffic was launched, followed by passenger services, which significantly contributed to Prudnik's development as an industrial center. The station has witnessed important historical events, such as visits by Empress Augusta Victoria and Adolf Hitler. Unfortunately, Prudnik has also experienced tragedies, including mine explosions and railway accidents. In the post-World War II period, the station served as an evacuation point during the Millennium Flood. In recent years, the station has faced modernization challenges, but in 2023, long-distance connections were restored. Interestingly, the station is also a tourist destination, with organized tourist train rides. Prudnik has a rich railway history, and its station, despite the passage of time, remains a vital point in regional transportation.
