wikipedia
Przechlewo, a village in the Pomeranian Voivodeship within the municipality of the same name, boasts a rich history spanning approximately 650 years. Situated along the Miastko-Człuchów railway line, the village is known for its well-developed tourist infrastructure. The first recorded mention of the settlement dates back to 1350, and its original name—Przechylewo—likely referred to the sloping terrain of the area. Historically, the region was predominantly Kashubian, with land ownership held by Kashubian noble families. In the 16th century, Przechlewo was a royal village. From the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, Germanization processes began to influence the local community, though they did not entirely erase the cultural distinctiveness of the Kashubian inhabitants. Przechlewo features several architectural monuments, including a Gothic half-timbered church dedicated to St. Anne from 1720 and a Neo-Gothic evangelical church—now Roman Catholic—built in 1911. During the interwar period, Catholicism was the dominant religion, and significant social differences were observed between Catholic and evangelical populations, which influenced community life. After World War II, the evacuation of the local population and a process of re-Kashubization took place, contributing to the revival of certain Kashubian traditions. Notable figures associated with Przechlewo include Professor Jan Lubiński and actress Marta Żmuda Trzebiatowska. Today, Przechlewo remains an important cultural landmark in Kashubia, reflecting the complex history of a region shaped by both Polish and German influences over the centuries.
