Człuchów County, located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, was established in 1999 as a result of administrative reform. The county seat is the town of Człuchów, and its administrative structure includes urban municipalities (Człuchów), urban-rural municipalities (Czarne, Debrzno), and rural municipalities (Człuchów, Koczała, Przechlewo, Rzeczenica). In 2019, the county had a population of 56,085, which decreased to 55,933 by 2020. The area has undergone numerous administrative changes since 1945, having been under various jurisdictions, including those of Bydgoszcz, Szczecin, Koszalin, and Słupsk, before finally being assigned to Gdańsk’s administration in 1999. Architecturally, the county is characterized by historic buildings, including the Gothic castle in Człuchów and numerous churches from different eras, which reflect the region’s rich history. Culturally, the county hosts various local events, festivals, and traditions that showcase its Kashubian heritage. Interestingly, despite changes in administrative affiliation, the county’s culture and history have endured, blending influences from various regions of Poland. Człuchów County borders Bytów and Chojnice counties in Pomerania, Sępólno in Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Złotów in Greater Poland, and Szczecinek in West Pomeranian, making it an important hub in the regional transport and administrative network.
