wikipedia
The Rysianka Shelter is a mountain tourist hostel of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK) located in the Żywiec Beskids, at an altitude of 1,290 meters above sea level. Its history dates back to 1936, when Gustaw Pustelnik obtained permission to build a commercial facility, which led to protests from other tourist organizations. After initial investment problems, the shelter was opened in 1937 as the "Tatra Skiers Society Shelter – Lipowska," designed by architect Gustaw Maślanka. The facility offered 50 overnight accommodations, and its interior was planned with the comfort of tourists in mind. During World War II, the shelter was converted into quarters for German troops, which involved attempts to detain Pustelnik, who was suspected of collaborating with the Polish army. After the war, the building was devastated, but thanks to the efforts of the Żywiec Branch of PTTK, its tourist function was restored. In the 1960s and 1970s, a thorough modernization was carried out, including the construction of new rooms and installations. The shelter now offers 50 overnight accommodations in rooms ranging from 2 to 10 beds, with full board and a buffet available on-site. Numerous hiking trails start in the area around the shelter, making it a popular destination for mountain hiking enthusiasts. In the summer, a campsite operates nearby, and in the winter, ski equipment rentals are available. The Rysianka Shelter combines a rich history with opportunities for active recreation in a unique mountain setting.
