Jeleśnia

Jeleśnia Commune is located in the Silesian Voivodeship, within Żywiec County, and is the largest rural commune in this voivodeship. The commune covers an area of 170.51 km², of which 35% is agricultural land and 54% is forested. The commune consists of nine villages, including Jeleśnia, which is the administrative seat, as well as Korbielów, Krzyżowa, and Sopotnia Wielka. According to data from June 30, 2004, the commune had 13,488 inhabitants, but by December 31, 2017, this number had decreased to 13,353. The commune is home to numerous educational institutions, including School Complexes in Jeleśnia and kindergartens that provide education for children. Additionally, there is a Communal Public Library with branches in several villages, highlighting the importance of culture and education in the life of the local community. The commune is characterized by architecture typical of the region, with Roman Catholic churches such as the Parish of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Krzyżowa and the Parish of St. Adalbert in Jeleśnia, which are significant elements of local identity. The history of the commune dates back to the period between 1975 and 1998 when it was part of the Bielsko Voivodeship, which has influenced its development and character. Jeleśnia is also surrounded by beautiful landscapes, making it conducive to tourism and recreation, while neighboring communes such as Koszarawa, Radziechowy-Wieprz, and Zawoja offer additional attractions and opportunities for outdoor activities.
