The Stanisław Dunin-Borkowski Mountain Shelter, managed by the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK), is located on Luboń Wielki in the Beskid Wyspowy range at an altitude of 1022 meters above sea level. Its distinctive appearance, reminiscent of Baba Yaga's hut, makes it a unique landmark. It is the only shelter in the region offering a spacious 9-person room with panoramic windows. In total, the shelter provides 25 sleeping places, including 2-person and multi-person rooms. Additional amenities include a common room, a tourist buffet, and a shower. The surrounding area features a covered chapel, a bonfire site, and a dedicated space for tourists. A scenic clearing offers breathtaking views of peaks such as Szczebel, Lubogoszcz, and Babia Góra. The shelter is open year-round, with hiking trails maintained during winter, making it an attractive destination both in summer and winter—paragliding is also possible in the area. The shelter's history dates back to 1930, when construction began on the initiative of the Rabka branch of the Polish Tatra Society. It was officially opened on August 9, 1931. During World War II, it served as a base for Home Army partisans and was spared destruction thanks to the determination of its caretaker, Karolina Kaleciak. After the war, the shelter was modernized with the addition of a meteorological station and electricity. In 1971, on its 40th anniversary, it was named after Stanisław Dunin-Borkowski. In 2019, the shelter was ranked last in the Mountain Shelters Ranking by the "n.p.m." magazine. The various caretakers who managed the shelter after the war have left their mark, making it an important cultural heritage site in the region. Notable architectural details include plaques commemorating historical events and souvenir badges, which attract both tourists and history enthusiasts. More than just lodging, this shelter is a significant point on Poland’s tourist map, offering unparalleled views and a rich history.
