The Municipality of Mszana Dolna, located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Limanowa County, was established in 1992 as a result of its separation from the town of Mszana Dolna. It covers an area of 169.83 km², of which 50% is agricultural land and 45% is forested. According to 2004 data, the municipality is home to 16,358 people. Mszana Dolna is known as the birthplace of Justyna Kowalczyk, a cross-country skier, which is a significant part of its sports identity.
