wikipedia
The PTTK Przysłop Shelter under Barania Góra is a mountain tourist base located in the Silesian Beskids at an altitude of 951 meters above sea level. Its history dates back to the end of the 19th century, when a wooden hunting lodge was built for Archduke Friedrich Habsburg in 1897. The building served as a base for hunting capercaillies, but after World War I it was devastated and for some time remained under the management of the State Forests. The Upper Silesian Branch of the Polish Tatra Society took it over in the 1920s, after which the building was renovated and opened to tourists in 1925. Thanks to its good condition, it survived World War II and was reopened in 1946. In 1953, PTTK purchased the facility, and between 1973 and 1979 a new brick shelter was built to accommodate the growing number of tourists. The old Habsburg building was dismantled and moved to Wisła in 1985, where it now serves as the headquarters of the PTTK Branch. Near the shelter, there is also a wooden utility building known as the "GOPR-ówka," which houses the Barania Góra Center for the History of Mountain Tourism "At the Sources of the Wisła." Today, the shelter offers over 90 sleeping places and has a kitchen and a large dining room. Popular hiking trails pass by the shelter, such as the blue trail from Rupienka, the green trail from Istebna, and the red Main Beskid Trail from Kubalonka, all leading to the summit of Barania Góra. Additionally, there is an educational nature trail with informational points. The shelter is an important destination for mountain hiking enthusiasts and local tourist culture, as well as an interesting historical attraction linked to hunting traditions and the activities of PTTK.
