Pułtusk is an urban-rural municipality located in the Masovian Voivodeship, within the Pułtusk County. The seat of the municipality is the town of Pułtusk, which boasts a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages. Administratively, the municipality was part of the Ciechanów Voivodeship from 1975 to 1998, and until 1954, it existed as a merger of the town of Pułtusk and the rural commune of Kleszewo. According to 2017 data, the municipality had a population of 24,613 and covers an area of 133.72 km², of which 72% is agricultural land. Pułtusk is renowned for its numerous architectural and cultural monuments. The town is characterized by a wide network of local administrative units, including Białowieża, Chmielewo, and Kleszewo. Additionally, the municipality is administratively divided into 10 such units. Over the centuries, Pułtusk has been an important commercial and cultural center, as reflected in the architecture of its historic sites, such as the Old Town with its numerous townhouses and churches. The municipality has been governed by various mayors, including Zbigniew Rutkowski and Wojciech Dębski, with Wojciech Gregorczyk currently serving as mayor. Its proximity to municipalities such as Gzy, Karniewo, and Zatory influences the development of local culture and traditions. It is worth noting that Pułtusk has preserved many local customs and festivals, attracting both tourists and residents. The region hosts numerous cultural events that highlight its regional identity.
