wikipedia
Radiówek is a settlement in Poland, located in the Masovian Voivodeship, in the Otwock County, within the gmina (municipality) of Wiązowna. The name of the locality was established in 1962, and Radiówek serves as an auxiliary unit of the gmina. The history of the settlement dates back to the 1930s, when in 1938 the construction of radio station facilities began on the order of the Ministry of Posts and Telegraphs. After World War II, the radio station commenced its operations, and the housing estate for its employees began to develop. A characteristic architectural feature were the well-designed six-family houses and duplexes, complemented by a Community House that served various cultural, educational, and service functions. In the 1950s and 1960s, the estate was fenced off, with limited accessibility, while the radio station itself was a military facility guarded by security personnel. In later years, the estate began to fall into disrepair due to a lack of investment. In 1996, Radiówek was transferred to the Wiązowna gmina, which enabled the subdivision and sale of plots to residents. Today, Radiówek offers numerous attractions, including the George Bidwell Park, sports fields, a playground, and a Social Services Center. Various associations are active in the locality, including the Volunteer Center and the Seniors' Association. An interesting fact is that the English writer George Bidwell lived here between 1956 and 1960. Public transportation to Radiówek was provided by bus line 722 from Warsaw to Otwock, with a stop at the Social Services Center. Radiówek, with its historic past and rich social life, is an example of a place with a fascinating history and dynamic development.
