Wiązowna is a rural commune (gmina) in the Masovian Voivodeship, within the Otwock County, with its administrative seat located in the town of Wiązowna. In 2021, the commune was home to 13,011 residents and covers an area of 102.12 km², of which 57% is agricultural land and 30% is forested. The commune comprises 30 auxiliary units, including 26 village councils (sołectwa) and 4 housing estates (osiedla). Wiązowna boasts a rich history dating back to 1867, when it was established as part of an administrative reform in the Kingdom of Poland. Over the years, the commune underwent numerous territorial changes, including the incorporation of other localities and divisions into smaller administrative units (gromady). During the interwar period, it belonged to the Warsaw Voivodeship, and after World War II, it retained its administrative affiliation. Throughout its history, the commune of Wiązowna experienced various administrative phases, including transformations into gromady and districts, as well as its reactivation as a commune in the 1970s. In 2014, the village of Wiązowna Kościelna was abolished, and the commune is served by three units of the Volunteer Fire Department (Ochotnicza Straż Pożarna). The commune gained recognition in 2019 when it received the Teraz Polska (Now Poland) award in the Commune category.
