Rataje is one of the districts of Poznań, located on the right bank of the Warta River, characterized by dense multi-family housing and divided into neighborhoods such as Armii Krajowej, Bohaterów II Wojny Światowej, and Piastowskie. The history of Rataje dates back to the 13th century, when the village of Rataje was mentioned in the founding charter of Poznań in 1253. Between 1925 and 1952, the area of Rataje was incorporated into Poznań, and its transformation into a city began with an urban planning competition, which led to the approval of a spatial development plan in 1962. The architecture of Rataje focuses on modern housing estates, with typical five-story blocks and eleven-story "slab" buildings that provided homes for thousands of residents. Rataje is home to numerous educational institutions, including primary and secondary schools, as well as the Salesian School Complex. Transportation in the district is well-developed, with numerous tram and bus lines, including modern routes launched since the late 1970s. Rataje is also a place where various religious communities thrive, with four Roman Catholic parishes. Culturally, Rataje has found its place in literature and music; the themes of its construction and social transformations have been addressed by various artists. Residents of Rataje have also included famous figures, such as journalist Jerzy Bogdanowski and actress Krystyna Feldman. Rataje also has its own local media, such as "Gazeta ratajska" and Ratajska Telewizja Kablowa, reflecting the social activity of its inhabitants.
