wikipedia
The Road Construction Museum in Szczucin, located along National Road 73, plays a significant role in preserving and documenting the heritage of road construction in Poland. Established in 1982 as a Memorial Chamber, it gradually evolved into a full-fledged museum, and its grounds were entered into the register of historical monuments in 1992. Since 2005, it has operated as the Road Construction History Unit within the structure of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA). The museum offers two main exhibitions: an outdoor open-air museum of road machinery and an indoor display featuring exhibits related to road construction and maintenance, as well as dioramas depicting human labor in this field. An interesting feature is the spiral path of the open-air museum, stretching 1.5 km, where over 30 stations chronologically present various eras of road construction, made from authentic materials. The exhibition also includes machinery used in road construction, such as rollers, crushers, and the WLs40 locomotive from a defunct brickyard in Szczucin. The architectural merits of the main building, which resembles a bridge with two towers and an arched span, are complemented by a Bailey bridge connecting the building to the open-air museum. The entire complex is surrounded by a picturesque mixed forest, giving the place a unique character and fostering cultural and educational development. The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions, enhancing its appeal and accessibility to visitors.
