Szczucin is an urban-rural municipality in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, within Dąbrowa County, with its seat in the town of Szczucin. Historically, from 1975 to 1998, the municipality was part of the Tarnów Voivodeship. Until 2008, it functioned as a rural municipality. A significant event in the municipality's history was the flood of May 18, 2010, when the levee on the Breń River broke in the village of Ziempniów, causing the eastern parts of the municipality to be flooded. As part of its local development strategy, Szczucin is a member of the Association of Polish Small Towns. The municipality covers an area of 119.83 km², of which 73% is agricultural land and 12% is forest land, making it a major agricultural center in the region. As of the end of June 2009, the municipality had a population of 13,354. It borders the municipalities of Czermin, Dąbrowa Tarnowska, Łubnice, Mędrzechów, Pacanów, Radgoszcz, and Wadowice Górne. The municipality includes both the town of Szczucin and numerous villages such as Borki, Brzezówka, Dąbrowica, Delestowice, and Łęka Szczucińska. Szczucin boasts a rich architectural, cultural, and historical heritage, and its residents cherish local traditions and customs. The municipality is becoming an important transportation hub and a place where tourist routes pass through, contributing to its tourism development.
