wikipedia
The Knights' Tower in Wodzisław Śląski, also known as the Romantic Tower, is a neo-Gothic structure approximately 20 meters high, built between 1867 and 1868 by Edward Brauns, the then-owner of the city and an enthusiast of Romanticism. Located in the municipal forest on Grodzisko Hill, the tower is an important element of the local landscape and history. After Brauns' death in 1881, the property was acquired in 1925 by merchants Stefan Krzystek and Jan Kowol, who transformed it into a viewpoint with a restaurant, involving a major renovation. On the opening day, 338 guests attended, reflecting its popularity. However, by 1938, the tower began to fall into disrepair. It was not until 1991, thanks to the efforts of the Society of Lovers of the Wodzisław Land, that it underwent a thorough restoration, gaining new functions such as a viewpoint and a space for local artists. Unfortunately, in 2004, the tower was set on fire by unknown perpetrators, leading to its destruction once again. Ownership issues related to financing the reconstruction emerged in 2009, but the city eventually initiated the renovation. In 2012, the walls and façade were rebuilt, and in 2020, another phase of revitalization began. The work was completed in 2021, and the tower regained its function as a viewpoint, once again attracting tourists and history enthusiasts. The structure is not only an example of neo-Gothic architecture but also a symbol of local culture and history, combining elements of Romanticism, the passion of local communities, and the pursuit of preserving cultural heritage.
