wikipedia
Ruś is a village in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in Olsztyn County, situated on the Łyna River, 7 km south of Olsztyn. Its history dates back to 1374 when it was founded by the Warmian Chapter. The name of the village may have various origins, including references to settlers from Ruthenia or terms related to fishing. Ruś had a forested character, and its inhabitants were engaged in agriculture, fishing, and beekeeping. In the 16th century, the village had only 3 farms, but the population grew, reaching 870 inhabitants in 1939, with a clear dominance of the Polish language. Ruś utilized mills, ironworks, and sawmills, indicating a developed craft economy. In 1444, a grain mill appeared, and in 1529, an ironworks. The village was repeatedly destroyed during wars, and epidemics, such as the plague, also affected its inhabitants. The school in Ruś, established in the 19th century, went through various stages of development, and classes were conducted in numerous languages. Today, wooden houses and a 19th-century chapel have been preserved. Ruś is known for skiing, has a modern primary school, and recreational areas by the river. Recently, the village was featured in the book "Ruś nad Łyną." Despite its turbulent history, Ruś has preserved its cultural heritage and unique character, attracting people with its architecture and picturesque surroundings.
