wikipedia
Rybokarty is a village located in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in Gryfice County, known for its rich history and interesting architecture. The first mention of the settlement dates back to 1380, and its name has changed over the centuries—from Ribbekard in 1447 to Ribberkart in 1780. Over the years, the village was owned by various proprietors, including the knight von Kretlow and Henryk Borek, known as the Black Knight. From 1791, Rybokarty belonged to the von Lettow family, who transformed the local palace into one of the most significant residences in the region. The palace, dating from the second half of the 18th century with later additions in the English Neo-Gothic style, is surrounded by a beautiful landscape park featuring valuable trees such as firs, larches, oaks, and beeches. The 15th-century Church of St. Joseph the Worker, with its rich Baroque interior and monumental organ, is also an important cultural landmark in Rybokarty. The church’s interior is adorned with a Baroque altar and epitaphs of the former palace owners. After World War II, the village was known as Piaseczno and underwent various administrative changes, belonging to the Szczecin Voivodeship from 1946 to 1998. With the establishment of the Rybokarty local administrative unit (sołectwo), residents gained the ability to manage their local affairs independently. Today, the palace has passed into private hands and, after thorough renovation, is set to be adapted into a hotel, offering wellness programs and thematic camps for children and youth. Rybokarty remains a place of rich cultural heritage, combining elements of architecture, history, and local community.
