wikipedia
In the Beskid Wyspowy Mountains lies the Rydz-Śmigły Pass, connecting the peaks of Łopień (961 m above sea level) and Mogielica (1,171 m above sea level). Originally known as the Chyszówki Pass, it has a rich history, and its name was changed for political reasons during the communist era in Poland. Since 1990, the original name has been restored, though both versions can still be found in tourist literature. The pass features a masonry chapel, a stone obelisk, and a cross, commemorating the battles fought by the Polish Legions under the command of Edward Rydz-Śmigły in 1914. The obelisk, dated 1938, is known as the Monument of the Meeting of Generations, and every year on Independence Day, an outdoor Mass is held there, accompanied by a literary and musical performance. The area around the pass is sparsely built up, with local agritourism farms offering accommodations and meals to visitors. It is also known for its stunning views, including the Gorce range, Babia Góra, Ćwilin, Śnieżnica, and the Łososińskie Range. From the northern slopes, the steep, narrow, and deep basin of the Czarna River flows down, creating a picturesque landscape known as Zaświercze. The pass is accessible via various hiking and cycling trails leading to places such as Dobra, Mogielica, and Półrzeczki. These areas attract tourists not only for their natural beauty but also for their local history and culture, making them an appealing destination for relaxation and outdoor activities.
