wikipedia
Rzymkowice (German: Ringwitz) is a village located in the Opole Voivodeship, within the municipality of Korfantów, with a rich history dating back to at least the 16th century, when it was first mentioned. Historically, the village lies in Upper Silesia and has witnessed numerous events, including skirmishes during the Thirty Years' War. Over the centuries, the village changed administrative affiliations and served as a warm, safe haven for the Polish population, whose dominance in the region persisted for centuries. Architecturally, it is distinguished by the Church of St. Peter and Paul, built in the early 20th century on the initiative of the local parish priest, as well as a wooden votive chapel. The village has retained its local character, where traditional agriculture coexists with small craft workshops, fostering the preservation of local customs and culture. Rzymkowice is renowned for its lace-making and the nurturing of numerous traditions associated with local holidays such as Christmas, Easter, and harvest festivals, which continue to attract both residents and tourists. Interestingly, after World War II, some residents of Rzymkowice hold dual Polish and German citizenship and belong to the German Minority. The modern village is typical of the agricultural region, maintaining strong ties to its past, making it an interesting place to explore Silesian culture and traditions. Cycling routes pass through Rzymkowice, and local bus transport has been operated by various carriers, facilitating access to nearby tourist attractions. The village is part of the Euroregion Pradziad, underscoring its importance as a site within cross-border cooperation.
