The municipality of Słopnice, located in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, within the Limanowa County, covers an area of 56.74 km², of which 53% is agricultural land and 40% is forest land. It was established on January 1, 1997, by a decree of the then Prime Minister Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz. One of the more interesting aspects of the municipality is its change in administrative affiliation – until 1998, it was part of the Nowy Sącz Voivodeship, and since 1999, it has been part of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. The seat of the municipality is the village of Słopnice, which, together with the settlement of Zaświercze, forms this administrative unit. The demographics of the municipality have changed in recent years, from 6,572 inhabitants in 2015 to 6,764 in 2019. Słopnice borders the municipalities of Dobra, Kamienica, Limanowa, and Tymbark, making the region well-connected. The municipality consists of five village districts: Słopnice Dolne Królewskie, Słopnice Mogielica, Słopnice Górne, Słopnice Granice, and Słopnice Dolne Szlacheckie. The area is characterized by picturesque rural architecture and the vibrant development of local culture, which fosters community integration and the preservation of traditions.
