wikipedia
Sanguszko Pass, situated at an altitude of 480 meters above sea level, lies between the peaks of Kopytówka (549 m) and Krowia Góra (617 m), in the area of the Lanckorona Hills and the Babica Range, which belong to the Wieliczka Foothills and the Maków Beskids. The pass is traversed by the provincial road No. 956, as well as a hiking trail leading from Lanckorona to Jordanów. An important architectural feature is the obelisk dedicated to Eustachy Sanguszko, the initiator of the road's construction, which was built in the 1890s and had significant economic and military importance. During World War I, the Austrians blocked this route, and remnants of their trenches can still be found in the area, adding to the region's rich history. To the north of the pass stands a cross commemorating a battle that took place in the area during the Bar Confederation, known as the Battle of Groby. A memorial plaque with a quote by Karol Baliński, though mistakenly attributed to Adam Mickiewicz, is placed next to the cross. The cross and plaque were erected in 1999 to honor the confederates, and their mass grave is located on a nearby hill called Groby. Thus, Sanguszko Pass is not only an important transportation hub but also a place steeped in history, associated with significant events in Poland's past.
