wikipedia
The Szrenica Shelter, situated at an altitude of 1362 meters above sea level in the Karkonosze Mountains, was built between 1921 and 1922 by the Jelenia Góra-based architects, the Albert brothers. Like other structures in the region, it was constructed from wood. Initially named Reifträgerbaude, after 1945 it came under various managements, including serving as a Border Guard outpost after World War II, and from 1951 it belonged to the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK). Despite its beautiful location, the shelter faced challenges such as strong winds and prolonged rainfall, which significantly affected its technical condition. In 1967, the facility was closed, and in 1972, a fire destroyed 70% of its roof. Renovation work, which began in 1973, lasted until 1991, and in 1992 the shelter found new private owners. In total, the shelter offers 90 sleeping places in rooms ranging from 2 to 15 persons, dining and conference halls, and a buffet. The facility is located along a popular tourist trail, and from the viewpoint near the shelter, a panoramic view of the Izera Mountains and the Jelenia Góra Valley unfolds, making it an attractive destination for tourists. Additionally, near the shelter is the upper station of the chairlift from Szklarska Poręba.
