Sicienko is a rural commune in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, situated on the border of Bydgoszcz, which contributes to its dynamic development. Covering an area of 179.46 km² with a population of 10,501 residents (as of December 31, 2021), the commune consists of 21 village councils (sołectw) and 14 non-council settlements. Thanks to its proximity to the Bydgoszcz metropolitan area, the population grew by over 10% between 2013 and 2022, contrasting with the declining population trend across the entire voivodeship. Sicienko's economy is characterized by intensive investment development and the acquisition of EU funds, enabling the implementation of numerous infrastructure projects. The commune is traversed by a network of roads, including the expressway S5, as well as railway lines, facilitating transportation. The tourist attractions of the area are enhanced by hiking and cycling trails, such as the Wierzchuciński Trail of the Four Lakes and the "Painted Fields" trail. Sicienko boasts numerous historical landmarks, including manor-park complexes in Kruszyn and Mochle, a palace in Sicienko, and churches dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The commune is also home to the Kruszyn Nature Reserve and protected landscape areas, highlighting its ecological value. Education is provided by four primary schools and a school-preschool complex, as well as private institutions. Cultural life is enriched by numerous sports clubs and historically significant monuments, such as churches and former buildings. In 2023, a development project was completed around Lake Wierzchucińskie Małe, attracting recreation enthusiasts. Architecturally and culturally diverse, Sicienko presents an intriguing blend of history and modernity, drawing both residents and tourists alike.
