wikipedia
The Sieradz Ethnographic Park is an open-air museum located in the eastern part of Sieradz, operating as a branch of the District Museum in Sieradz. Its history dates back to the 1960s, when Zofia Neymanowa, director of the Regional Museum in Sieradz, initiated the concept of creating a skansen. In 1973, the decision was made to establish the facility, with its first exhibits being a weaver's cottage from Zgierz and the homestead of folk sculptor Szczepan Mucha. Despite a hiatus caused by the economic crisis, the idea was revived in 1986, and on January 17, 1987, the Sieradz voivode granted permission for the construction of the park. The skansen promotes the folk culture of the Sieradz region through the "Krzesiwo" program, which includes workshops with folk artists. Architecturally, the park showcases a diversity of traditional structures, such as a 19th-century cottage and an open homestead typical of the Sieradz region, complete with barns and cowsheds. An interesting feature is the "Time Capsule," buried in 2010, containing mementos and memories left by the inhabitants of the Sieradz region. The skansen is an important venue not only for preserving local culture but also for education and community integration.
