wikipedia
Sieradz County, located in the western part of the Łódź Voivodeship, was established in 1999 as part of the administrative reform. Its seat is the city of Sieradz. The county covers an area of 1,491.04 km², which constitutes 8.18% of the voivodeship's area, and it borders both Łódź and Greater Poland voivodeships. Historically, Sieradz was part of the castellany and the Sieradz Land, so its history dates back to medieval times. During the era of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the county belonged to the Sieradz Voivodeship, and after the Second Partition of Poland, it was incorporated into the Prussian Partition. In 1955, the northern part of the county was incorporated into the newly created Poddębice County, and from 1975 to 1998, Sieradz County did not exist. It is worth mentioning that Sieradz Land was a significant location for nationwide assemblies and synods, and its location made it an important communication route. Due to the lignite deposits found in the area, estimated at around 490 million tons, their exploitation is planned for the years 2025–2045. Demographically, the county has seen a decline in population, although a slight increase was recorded in the Sieradz and Brzeźnio municipalities. The county administration has been headed by Mariusz Bądzior since March 2016. Meanwhile, the county boasts rich cultural resources, with interesting buildings and sites connected to the region's history.
