Sierakowice

The Sierakowice Commune, located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship within the Kartuzy County, is a rural municipality with its seat in the town of Sierakowice. From 1975 to 1998, it was part of the Gdańsk Voivodeship. The commune is known for its rich Kashubian culture; in 2007, the Kashubian language was introduced as an auxiliary language, highlighting the local identity. According to data from June 30, 2022, the commune is inhabited by 20,686 people, with as many as 98% being Kashubians, and a 2002 survey revealed that 39.9% of the population speaks the Kashubian language. Sierakowice is famous for having the highest natural population growth in Poland, which may indicate its attractiveness to residents. The commune is situated at the intersection of provincial roads 214 and 211 and was once served by the Lębork – Kartuzy – Pruszcz Gdański railway line, which is currently not in operation. The municipality includes areas of significant natural value, such as the Kashubian Landscape Park, the Mirachowo Forests, and several nature reserves, including Jezioro Turzycowe and Żurawie Chrusty, making it attractive to nature enthusiasts. Architecturally, the Sierakowice Commune retains the typical Kashubian regional character, featuring traditional houses and historic buildings. The commune cooperates with neighboring municipalities, such as Cewice, Chmielno, Czarna Dąbrówka, and Kartuzy, which fosters cultural exchange and local development.
