wikipedia
The mural "Silva Rerum" is a monumental work of art created to celebrate the 750th anniversary of the founding of Krakow. Located on the retaining wall of Lasota Hill along Powstańców Śląskich Avenue, the mural, measuring 5 meters in height and 90 meters in length, was one of the largest historical murals in the world in 2007. The project, designed by Jerzy Rojkowski, a student of the Academy of Fine Arts, received substantive support from historians and was approved by the Program Council of the Jubilee Celebrations and the Historical Museum of the City of Krakow. Funded by the Krakow City Council, the mural was a response to a competition for anniversary events. Work on the mural began on May 7, 2007, and its grand opening took place on June 8, 2007, as part of the main jubilee celebrations. The name "Silva Rerum" refers to the tradition of storing archival materials in chests, symbolizing the mural's content as a time capsule depicting over 1,000 years of Krakow's history. This work, created by leading graffiti artists, is not only an architectural decoration but also plays a significant role in the cultural and historical context, connecting the city's heritage with modern art.
