Skępe

The municipality of Skępe, located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship in Lipno County, boasts a rich history and unique architectural and natural assets. During the period of the Kingdom of Poland, the municipality was part of Lipno County in the Płock Governorate. In the 1930s, it was divided into the municipalities of Skępe and Narutowo. Skępe, which had lost its town rights, regained them in 1973. The municipality covers an area of 179.23 km², of which 50% is agricultural land and 35% is forested, accounting for 17.65% of the entire county's area. Within its borders lie two nature reserves: Przełom Mieni, which protects a section of the Mienia River valley, and Torfowisko Mieleńskie, which preserves natural peatland plant communities. The municipality of Skępe is also home to numerous historical monuments, such as the Bernardine monastery complex from the late 15th century, a disused Evangelical cemetery, the Chapel of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a manor complex in Wioska, and a half-timbered mill in Żuchowo. These sites bear witness to the region's rich cultural past. In 2004, the municipality had a population of 7,525, highlighting its vibrant community.
