Skierbieszów is a rural municipality located in the Lublin Voivodeship, within the Zamość County, characterized by a distinctive tourism and agricultural economy. The administrative seat of the municipality is the town of Skierbieszów. In 2004, the municipality had a population of 5,938, which decreased to 5,227 by 2017. It covers an area of 139.17 km², of which 80% is agricultural land and 14% is forested. The area is home to the Skierbieszów Landscape Park, which protects unique species of Polish fauna, and the Broczówka Nature Reserve, known for its rare steppe plants. The region is rich in tourist trails, including the "Tadeusz Kościuszko Trail" and the "Trail in the Footsteps of Father Stefan Wyszyński," as well as cycling paths, making it attractive for enthusiasts of active recreation. Road transport in the municipality is based on the provincial road 843, which connects Zamość, Skierbieszów, and Chełm. The municipality comprises numerous villages, including Dębowiec, Huszczka, Iłowiec, Sławęcin, and Zawoda, reflecting the diversity of local communities. It borders the municipalities of Grabowiec, Izbica, and Zamość, further highlighting its strategic location in the region.
