wikipedia
Skolwin is an administrative housing estate of Szczecin, located in its northern part, bordering the town of Police and the Stołczyn estate. Historically, Skolwin, known until 1939 as Scholwin, was a village and part of the city of Szczecin, as well as an important center for paper production. In 1946, Skolwin was officially incorporated into Szczecin, and its name was changed from the temporary Żółwino to its current one. The area features a boat harbor and a port quay that once served the paper mill. The estate is surrounded by picturesque areas along the Oder River, with numerous water reservoirs, meadows, and islands, making it ideal for tourism and water recreation. Active sports clubs in Skolwin include OKS Świt Skolwin, which competes in the Polish Third League. Historically, during World War II, there was a labor camp here, and until 2007, a paper factory operated in the area, which was one of the largest paper producers in Poland. Its history is linked to a Danish investor who eventually closed the plant due to high production costs. The local council has been functioning since 1990 and consists of 15 members. Transportation is provided by bus lines and the Szczecin Skolwin railway station, which is currently being renovated. In a broader context, Skolwin combines a rich industrial heritage with the natural beauty of the region, making it an interesting place both to live in and to visit.
