Skorzeszyce

Skorzeszyce is a village in Poland located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in Kielce County, within the Górno municipality, situated on the Belnianka and Kakonianka rivers. Historically tied to the Sandomierz Land, the village was a site of settlement as early as the Middle Ages. Its history dates back to 1401, when Kraków Bishop Piotr Wysz granted the village to Zelik, allowing for the settlement of peasants. In the records of Jan Długosz, Skorzeszyce was indicated as part of the Daleszyce parish, and from the 15th century, it belonged to the domain of the Kraków bishopric. Over the years, the village developed, having forges and, together with Daleszyce, was granted Środa law, which provided it with judicial self-government. In 1827, it was inhabited by 345 people, and a tragic event in the history of Skorzeszyce occurred in 1944, when 11 residents were killed during the pacification of the village by German occupiers. Today, a monument commemorating this tragedy stands in the village. In recent years, the village has undergone significant changes—investments related to the construction of a sewage treatment plant and a community center were inaugurated. In 2023, a Volunteer Fire Department was established. Skorzeszyce is home to the Parish of St. Rosalia the Virgin, whose church was built in 1991, and nearby, the Kielce Diocese Center for Meetings and Dialogue was established. In terms of transportation, the village is served by bus lines 43 and 206 from Kielce. Education is provided by the Jan Pawel II Primary School and a preschool division. The village is pursuing infrastructural development, with newly assigned street names, highlighting its vitality and care for the local community. An interesting fact is that in 2022, 14 streets were named. Skorzeszyce is a place rich in history and tradition, blending rural life with modernity.
