wikipedia
Sokołowsko, a village in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, is a place with a rich history and interesting architecture. Probably founded by Benedictines in the 14th century, for centuries it was associated with Radosno Castle, and its development gained momentum in the 19th century when it became a health resort. Sokołowsko gained fame by establishing the world's first sanatorium for tuberculosis patients in 1855, which attracted many visitors. It is worth mentioning Dr. Alfred Sokołowski, who contributed to the development of the resort, giving it its current name. Historic buildings include the Orthodox Church of St. Michael the Archangel, a historic urban layout from 1854, and the Dr. Brehmer Sanatorium complex, which burned down in 2005. The village is surrounded by high mountains, and climatic diversity results in a prolonged winter season and abundant rainfall in summer. Sokołowsko is also an important cultural center, hosting film and music festivals, including the recurring "Hommage à Kieślowski" festival in honor of director Krzysztof Kieślowski, who spent part of his life here. Among the interesting facts are the Gwarków Run and the renovation of the "White Eagle," which aims to restore the health resort character of the village. These activities are intended to develop tourism and local culture, as well as to remind of the historical significance of Sokołowsko as a health resort.
