Somianka is a rural municipality located in the Masovian Voivodeship, within Wyszków County, with its administrative seat in the village of the same name. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Ostrołęka Voivodeship. Covering an area of 116.38 km², it was home to 5,542 residents (as of June 30, 2004). The land use structure is dominated by agricultural land (72%) and forests (15%), and the municipality constitutes 13.28% of the area of Wyszków County. The region boasts numerous historical monuments, including the 18th-century wooden Church of St. Stanislaus the Bishop in Barcice, along with a belfry and a Roman Catholic cemetery. In Janki, there is a 19th-century manor house, and in Kręgi, a 19th-century palace. Popowo Kościelne features a church from 1906, a rectory from 1838, a Roman Catholic cemetery established in 1837, and a Jewish cemetery dating from the 18th/19th century. The municipality also includes a palace complex in Popowo-Parcele and numerous sites in other localities such as Skorki, Somianka, Stary Mystkówiec, and Suwin, including a stone granary from 1925 and a "Koźlak" type windmill from 1880. Wola Mystkowska offers a church from 1935 and a wooden cross in the Roman Catholic cemetery. The municipality of Somianka consists of numerous village administrative units (sołectwa), including Barcice, Jasieniec, Popowo-Letnisko, and Stare Kozłowo. It borders the municipalities of Dąbrówka, Rząśnik, Serock, Wyszków, and Zatory. It is worth noting that the area served as a filming location for movies such as "Miszmasz, czyli kogel-mogel 3" (2019), "Koniec świata, czyli kogel-mogel 4" (2022), and "Supernova" (2019), highlighting its cultural significance and appeal. Thanks to its historical heritage, diverse monuments, and picturesque scenery, the municipality of Somianka is an interesting point on the map of Masovia.
