wikipedia
The stadium of the Słubice Sports and Recreation Center LLC in Słubice, originally known as Ostmarkstadion, is one of the oldest stadiums in Central Europe, built between 1914 and 1927 under the supervision of the Lubuskie Provincial Monument Conservator. The facility is located on a 16-hectare plot at Sportowa Street, surrounded by the Amusement and Recreation Park and soccer fields. The stadium has a rich history, from its construction, which was largely carried out by prisoners of war, to modern sporting events featuring clubs such as the Municipal Sports Club Polonia Słubice. The inauguration took place on May 27, 1927, and the venue has hosted numerous significant events, including the Craft and Agricultural Fair in 1924 and a speech by Adolf Hitler in 1932. After World War II, the stadium came under Polish ownership and took on a new role, becoming a venue for local matches, including the central rounds of the Polish Cup. In 2003, it underwent a comprehensive renovation, and in 2012, it was transformed into a limited liability company, elevating its management status. The facility is legally protected as a historical monument, and its architecture, inspired by the German Stadium in Berlin, combines historical elements with modern amenities such as artificial turf and lighting. Interestingly, an English oak tree named Victor von Podbielski once stood on the stadium grounds but was removed in 2013. In recent years, the stadium has hosted various sporting and cultural events and is supported by local authorities, as evidenced by bilingual information boards and initiatives focused on its preservation and revitalization. Its inclusion in the register of historical monuments in 2014 highlights its significance not only locally but also regionally. Today, the facility features not only a playing field but also other amenities such as a hotel, campground, swimming pools, and a sports hall, making it a central hub for sports and recreational activities in Słubice.
