The Sanctuary of St. Anne on St. Anne’s Mountain is a valuable historical monument belonging to the Province of St. Hedwig of the Franciscans. The church, originally Gothic and dating back to the 15th century, underwent several reconstructions, including in 1665 and in the Neo-Baroque style between 1957 and 1963. The church houses the famous sculpture of St. Anne Samotrzecia (St. Anne with the Virgin and Child), which was moved here from Ujazd and attracts pilgrims due to its miraculous reputation. The sanctuary is known for its numerous side altars, including those dedicated to St. Francis and St. Joseph, and in 1980, it was granted the status of a minor basilica. The monastery, initially built of wood between 1656 and 1659, was later reconstructed as a brick complex between 1733 and 1749. The site has played a significant role in the region's history, witnessing numerous events such as pilgrimages that began in 1779, as well as periods of suppression and the return of the religious community. After World War I, the Stations of the Cross were constructed, and in the 20th century, the sanctuary expanded with the addition of a Pilgrim House and the design of grottos modeled after Lourdes. In 1983, it was visited by Pope John Paul II. Important cultural elements also include the chapels of the Way of the Cross and the Path of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The monastery is currently managed by Fr. Dr. Jonasz Marian Pyka OFM, and its rich history and religious significance continue to attract numerous pilgrims, underscoring its enduring importance to the local community.
