wikipedia
The Church of St. John the Apostle and Evangelist in Knyszyn is a historic temple that combines features of Gothic and Renaissance architecture. It was built between 1579 and 1601, funded by Jan Zamoyski, the starost (elder) of Knyszyn, and was consecrated on March 21, 1601. Initially, it was dedicated to All Saints, but over time, this dedication changed. Over the years, the building underwent a series of architectural transformations, mainly due to renovations and reconstruction after a fire in 1710. Its current appearance is the result of work carried out between 1900 and 1902, during which the church was extended by one bay, a tower was added, and a decorative wooden ceiling was installed inside. The church serves as the seat of the Roman Catholic parish of St. John the Apostle and Evangelist, giving it not only religious but also socio-cultural significance for the local community. Inside, valuable elements such as the main altar, organ, and pulpit highlight the cultural richness of the region. An interesting addition is the old holy water font, carved from a single fieldstone, which stands as a testament to local traditions and craftsmanship. The church in Knyszyn is not only a place of prayer but also an important landmark in the town's history, reflecting its development and cultural diversity.
