Knyszyn is an urban-rural commune located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, in the Mońki County. Its seat is the town of Knyszyn, which plays an important role in the region. The commune, with an area of 127.68 km², consists mainly of agricultural land (57%) and forests (32%) and constitutes 9.24% of the county's area. Historically, between 1975 and 1998, the commune belonged to the Białystok Voivodeship. According to data from June 30, 2004, the commune had 4,965 inhabitants. In Knyszyn and surrounding villages such as Chobotki, Czechowizna, and Nowiny-Zdroje, one can observe a rich tradition of local rituals and festivals that highlight the cultural identity of the region.
