wikipedia
The Church of St. John the Baptist in Sadowne is a Roman Catholic temple located on the outskirts of the village, with a rich history dating back to the 16th century. It was built as a wooden church in 1524, and the parish was established by the Chapter of the Warsaw Collegiate Church. The consecration of this first church took place in 1525, and its first parish priest was Rev. Jan Drogoszewski. In 1580, the church received new funding, which contributed to the development of the local community. In the 18th century, a new wooden church dedicated to St. John the Baptist and St. Casimir was built on the site of the old temple and consecrated in 1803. The current Neo-Gothic church was built between 1906 and 1909 according to the design of architect Zygmunt Zdański, and its consecration took place on October 3, 1909. The church is made of brick, and its interior features valuable furnishings, such as a tabernacle and a baptismal font from the early 19th century, as well as paintings of St. Casimir, the Virgin Mary with Child, and other works from the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1972, the church was entered into the register of historical monuments. Surrounding the church are a Gothic chapel from 1917 and a wooden parish house from 1827–1828, both also listed as historical monuments. Significant events in the church's history include those related to World War II, when the Germans destroyed part of the parish buildings and the temple was used as a prisoner-of-war camp. Interestingly, during the occupation, priests from other dioceses fleeing persecution stayed in the parish house. Today, the church and its surroundings play an important role in the life of the local community.
