wikipedia
St. Nicholas Church in Gąsawa is a wooden, larch structure built around 1625 by the Canons Regular of Trzemeszno. Its construction is of log-and-frame type, which gives it a unique character. Discoveries made during renovation revealed a Gothic beam layout and a rich roof truss, as well as 18th-century paintings that had long been hidden under plaster. The historical value of the church was emphasized by a decision of the Prussian authorities around 1850, which did not allow its demolition, thus preserving this monument to this day. As a result of a renovation carried out in 1998–1999, many structural elements were restored. The discovery of a painting of St. Augustine and illusionistic frescoes from various eras constitutes an important contribution to Polish art history. In recent years, conservation work has also been carried out in the presbytery, where depictions of saints and unique paintings were found, including a rare motif of the suffering Job. The church also stands out for its rich furnishings: five Baroque altars, a pulpit, and a late Gothic Crucifixion Group. An interesting feature is the brick rotunda from 1817, which houses a movable nativity scene. The architecture of the temple and its cultural treasures make it not only a place of prayer but also a valuable object of research and tourism in Greater Poland.
