wikipedia
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Nagórzany is an intriguing Greek Catholic masonry church, built in 1848 thanks to the foundation of Włodzimierz Poźniak. Established in 1861, it was initially dedicated to St. Michael, but its patronage was changed to the current one in 1864. Until 1791, the church functioned as an independent parish, after which it became a filial church of the parish in Wola Sękowa. The structure, designed in an oriented style, features a single-space rectangular layout, rounded in a semi-circle on the inside and three-sided on the outside. The roof is triple-pitched and covered with wood shingles, topped with a small belfry. The interior, with a flat ceiling, is characterized by a rectangular portal featuring an "ogee" (donkey-back) motif. A former stone bell tower in front of the church was dismantled to provide material for a monument. After being converted to a Latin-rite church following World War II, the building began to fall into disrepair, and part of its furnishings were lost, including a 16th-century icon that ended up in the Historical Museum in Sanok. Interestingly, the church grounds are located on a 19th-century burial cemetery, where a few tombstones have been preserved. Beneath the church lies a crypt with the graves of the founder and his sons, underscoring its cultural and historical significance in the region.
