Stara Kiszewa

The commune of Stara Kiszewa, located in the southern part of the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Kościerzyna County, spans an area of 213 km², featuring a characteristic division of the terrain between Kashubia and Kociewie. The central part of the commune is adorned by the valley of the Wierzyca River, which serves as a natural border between these two regions. Historically, the village of Stara Kiszewa, whose origins date back to the early Middle Ages, was granted Chełmno rights in 1347 and for many years served as the capital of the starostwo. The commune is inhabited by approximately 6,700 people, with its seat in Stara Kiszewa. The architecture is dominated by traditional Kashubian buildings, as well as religious structures, including three Roman Catholic parishes: St. Martin, St. Anthony of Padua, and St. Nicholas. The commune combines rich natural resources, with nature reserves such as Krwawe Doły and Mechowisko Krąg, as well as four natural monuments in the form of ancient trees. Education in the commune includes one vocational school and three primary schools, while sports activities mainly revolve around football, represented by the clubs Wierzyca Automobile Stara Kiszewa and Huragan Nowe Polaszki. Transportation in the commune, although dominated by railway lines that currently do not serve passenger traffic, is supported by the provincial road no. 214. An interesting fact is the commune's partnership with the German commune of Lahntal, which has been ongoing since 2002, highlighting the importance of international relations for local communities.
