Staroźreby is a rural commune located in the Masovian Voivodeship, within Płock County. Its administrative seat is the town of Staroźreby, formerly known as Zdziar Wielki. The commune, which belonged to the Płock Voivodeship from 1975 to 1998, had a population of 7,563 in 2004, which decreased to 7,216 by the end of 2019. The commune covers an area of 137.55 km², with a predominance of agricultural land, accounting for 88% of the area, while forested areas make up 6%. The terrain is diverse, featuring mostly flat and gently undulating landscapes, with dominant pine, alder, and birch forests. The river valleys of the Wkra and Vistula, as well as the Płonka River basin, play a significant role in the region's landscape and are home to many protected species, including the great crested grebe. The commune consists of several village administrative units, such as Aleksandrowo, Begno, and Nowy Bromierz, as well as settlements without such status, like Góra or Krzywanice-Trojany.
