wikipedia
The Steel House, also known as the "Iron House," is an experimental building from 1927, located in Zabrze at Friedhofstrasse (now Cmentarna Street). It was constructed in just 26 days using prefabricated steel plates produced at the Donnersmarck Steelworks. Its architectural style is close to modernism, and the building's form resembles other structures located on Krakusa Street. The facade of the Steel House consists of a steel structure where the plates were joined with rivets, while the interior walls are made of brick, and the foundations are masonry. The roof has a wooden structure covered with a hipped roof featuring triangular skylights, which gives the building its distinctive appearance. Between 1928 and 1929, four similar structures were built nearby on Szafarczyka Street in Rokitnica, which may indicate the popularity of this innovative construction technology at the time. The Steel House reflects a modern approach to architecture and engineering in the interwar period, when technological progress in construction allowed for the introduction of unconventional solutions. An interesting fact is the rapid method of its construction, which was a significant achievement for that era. This building is an example of experimental architectural solutions that fit into the cultural and social context of the time, where modernity was combined with functionality.
