Stone House

The Stone House, also known as The Giant, is an impressive natural monument in the form of an erratic boulder, located in the forest about 1.5 km west of Szczepankowo in Mogilno County. This boulder, with a circumference of 13 meters and a height ranging from 3.15 to 3.9 meters, is the largest erratic boulder in the Pałuki region. Its mass and size draw attention, and historical traces of chipping away parts of the stone suggest that it may have been even larger in the past. Surrounding the Stone House is a small, overgrown pond, which further enhances the charm of this place. The cultural dimension of the Stone House is strongly tied to local legends. One tale speaks of an evil sorcerer who lived in the forest and turned children into stones. Thanks to a brave brother who recognized his enchanted siblings, the spell was broken, and the sorcerer and his house were turned into the boulder. This fantastical explanation for the origin of the object creates a rich cultural and folkloric context, fitting into the tradition of stories about supernatural powers and local heroes. Other legends suggest that the Stone House may be connected to visitors from other planets, adding an air of mystery and encouraging speculation about its origins.
