wikipedia
The Świedziebnia Commune, located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, in the Brodnica County, has a rich history dating back to 1867, when it was established as the Dzierzno Commune in the Rypin County. The seat of the commune is the village of Świedziebnia. Between 1975 and 1998, the commune was part of the Toruń Voivodeship. According to data from the end of 2013, the commune had 5,209 inhabitants. Its area is 103.83 km², of which 73% is agricultural land and 17% is forested. The commune constitutes 10% of the total area of the county. Within its borders lies the Mszar Płociczno Nature Reserve, which protects a unique peat bog and plant relics. In terms of architecture, two monuments stand out: the wooden Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries in Księte and the church complex of the Parish of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Świedziebnia from 1876–79, which also includes a cemetery and a 19th-century gate. The history of the commune is complex, with numerous administrative changes, especially after World War II, when reforms regarding rural communes and village clusters were introduced. After the war, the formal administrative divisions did not reflect the actual situation until the reform in 1954. The commune also includes localities such as Chlebowo, Dzierzno, and Granaty, and it has occasionally happened that the commune was confused in the Central Statistical Office (GUS) databases, which has caused controversies in local administration. Thus, the Świedziebnia Commune is an example of a region with a rich yet complex history, featuring interesting architectural and natural aspects.
